"Renegades" is a science fiction novel by Marissa Meyer, the first book in the Renegades trilogy. The story begins with a traumatic event in the past: 6-year-old Nova Artino witnesses the murder of her mother, father, and baby sister by a villain gang's hitman. However, before he can shoot her, Nova uses her gift of putting people to sleep to cause him to faint. Her uncle, Alec, who is revealed to be Ace Anarchy, the leader of the Anarchists, finds Nova and kills the hitman.
