About This Book

This book was created by our mums and bubs participants here at Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation to shed some light on how our children ages 0 - 5 identify with their Aboriginal culture. This book is also great for children older than 5 to reflect on some of the similarities they share with the way they feel about Aboriginal Culture. Knowing culture and a sense of belonging is something that is important to us all, especially our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who have had their identities taken from them and this is something that has been passed down from generation to generation. Our mothers have illustrated what their children saw when asked "Why are they proud to be Aboriginal?" The stories are laid out simply so that our children can comprehend the stories as well as visualise with the illustrations. Using acrylic paint on canvas, the mothers have done an amazing job illustrating what their child explained. Seeing their artwork in a book has boosted the children's self esteem and recognising themselves as true Aboriginal illustrators and authors. These books give Australia a clearer visualisation of Aboriginal culture to our younger generations.
